Foundations of Organization Design
This session introduces the core concepts of organization design and the operating model. We’ll explore why design still matters, what an operating model truly is, and how the design process begins. Participants will learn the work of Milestone One (Discovery and Ambition) – specifically, how to diagnose the current state, build shared ambition, and set the foundation for an effective design effort.
Architecture: Designing the Organization Model
This session focuses on Milestone Two (Architecture), the stage where leaders make the key structural choices that shape the future organization. We’ll walk through the core building blocks of organization design, including how to create basic organization models, define the roles of business units and functions, and work through the iterative process of shaping the system. Participants will learn how to guide leadership teams through the essential decisions that turn strategy into action.
Integration: Connecting the Organization Across Boundaries
Once the architecture is set, the next challenge is making the organization work as a system. This session covers Milestone Three (Integration) and Milestone Four (Leadership), where the operating model becomes real through clearer connections across teams, updated ways of working, and the routines leaders use to run the business. Participants will learn how to build the practical links that help people work together, speed up decisions, and ensure the organization operates as one enterprise.
The Organization Practitioner: Skills, Mindset, and Case Application
This final session brings the practitioner role to life. We’ll explore the mindset, skills, and behaviors that define effective organization designers — how they shape conversations, surface tradeoffs, and help leaders make the hard choices. A real case example will illustrate how the full operating model process comes together in practice, giving participants a grounded view of the craft.
